We don’t think life should have to be about compromise, but the reality is that you just can’t have it all, all the time.

But that’s no reason to start getting all sad and stuffing your face full of Tim Tams. Hold it right there.

We have the solution: Earn it. Eat it.

You know, energy in, energy out – it really is that simple. If you train hard, you can play hard. Any other colloquial expressions needed? Nah, we didn’t think so.

So here’s what’s topping our “treat yo self list” at the moment after we smash out a session at Chocolate Box Training next door:

Real Banana Bread

This stuff has had a bit of a bad rap, but we’ve managed to get our mitts on a ripper organic banana bread, baked fresh each day by the gang at Infinity Bakery. This stuff is made with actual, organic bananas.

Big deal you say, but so much of the other stuff out there is made with a heap of banana flavouring, sugar, flour and pretty much nothing else. If you are smart and don’t slather it with butter, you’ve got a healthy snack loaded with good likes like fibre, omega-3s, vitamins A and C and potassium.

Acai

The only reason we haven’t put this on the menu yet is because we always screw up its pronunciation (ah-sign-EE). But we’ve decided to throw caution to the wind in favour of this exotic, healthy little berry from the rainforests of South America.

It’s packed with vitamins A, E and C, calcium, iron, potassium and sodium, fibre and heart-healthy fats – making it a great little booster to help with heart health, weight management, digestion and even skin conditions.

Grab it in a bowl or smoothie (all made with almond milk), all nutritionally balanced to keep sugars low while still being super tasty.

Oh, and did we mentioned it is also an aphrodisiac? Sold.

Cacao

Another one that gets us tongue-tied (watch this episode from Portlandia and we promise you will never forget how to say it again), these little guys are even better for you than dark chocolate.

Cacao chips or nibs are basically pieces of cacao beans that have been roasted, separated from their husks and broken up into tiny little pieces.

A little chocolatey piece of goodness – cacao chips are literally packed with fibre, iron (which is really important for red blood cell production), antioxidants, and have the ability to actually make you feel happy (cacao can trigger the brain to release particular neurotransmitters that make us feel good).

Ok, we’ve kind of snuck this one in here, but there is truth to our drink of choice.
